Albert Edward Browne, Jr., recently of Pembroke, Massachusetts and formerly of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on September 14th, 2026 at the age of 85 due to chronic medical conditions in his final years.

Albert was born on January 9, 1941 in Westernport, Maryland to parents Albert Edward Browne and Ora Mae Kathryn Schaeffer. Albert lived with his grandparents in his early years in Oakland, Maryland, where he learned to love the beauty of the outdoors. At the age of eight he moved to Washington D.C. with his mother, where he lived through high school and made many lifelong friends. At age 19, Albert joined the Air Force and was posted in Iceland, France and California, where he had many adventures and wild times. After his military service, Albert became a commercial roofing contractor in the Washington, D.C. area. Albert founded and operated three roofing companies and helped many others get their start in the roofing business. He re-roofed several buildings of note in Washington, including the Kennedy Center and the Lincoln Memorial, and provided charity roofing services to Christmas in April, now Rebuilding Together. At the time of his death, he was President of Capital Roofing, Inc. operating out of Landover, Maryland.

In 1979 Albert married Lucinda Merry, his second and surviving wife, whom he affectionately called “Lucy.” In 1992 they moved to Annapolis, where they would live for many years. He travelled throughout the United States and Canada in his camper van with Lucinda. He loved to visit family on weekends and at reunions. An avid reader until the day he died, he also loved to dance and sing and had a great appreciation for music. He was a charming conversationalist, generous to a fault, and treated people from all walks of life with equal respect. Albert loved boating, fishing, and swimming on the Severn River and the Chesapeake Bay. He also loved volunteering at The Bay Theatre Company and Compass Rose Theater, which he helped to found.

After his health declined, Lucinda and Albert moved to Pembroke, Massachusetts part time. There he loved watching birds on the pond behind their house and training their spaniels to catch ice cubes in mid-air. In 2025, Albert moved to Bridges by Epoch Memory Care Living where he brought joy and humor to staff and residents alike. In 2026, Albert marked 55 years of sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous, and continued to attend AA meetings up until the final week of his life. He helped hundreds of people to get sober and stay sober through the AA program.

Albert is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lucinda Merry-Browne of Annapolis, Maryland and Pembroke, Massachusetts; son Albert Edward “Ted” Browne III and wife Lena of Martinsburg, West Virginia; son Kelly Jason Browne and wife Cassie of Charles Town, West Virginia; daughter Rachel Penrod (Browne) of Windermere, Florida; son Matthew Browne of New York, New York; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services for Albert Edward Browne, Jr. will be held at The Church of St. John the Evangelist, 410 Washington Street, Duxbury, MA 02331, on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 12:00 pm with burial service directly following. The family invites all who knew Albert to attend. A second memorial service will be held in October in Annapolis, Maryland with details to be announced.
