Obituary

Arthur Freeman Borden (Art), 76 of Carver, MA passed away unexpectedly on Thursday July 30, 2026.

Arthur was born in Plymouth, MA to Howard and Barbara (Jackson) Borden. He grew up in Pembroke and graduated from Silver Lake Regional High school in 1968. He went on to attend Fitchburg State College for a year and went on to earn a certificate in Architectural Drafting at United Technical Institute in Boston, finishing at the top of his class. After working for a couple of smaller firms for a few years, he went on to open his own business as a registered land surveyor. He ran this business for the past 37 years.

Art married his childhood sweetheart Cynthia (Cindy) Borden in 1971. He and Cindy were married for almost 55 years. They had three children (Joshua, Amy and Rebekah) and many foster children. Having lived in town for over 50 years, Art loved the town of Carver. He was on the Board of Health for over 25 years. He also did many surveys around town, including the Carver Fire Station and Police Station, the United Parish and the Union Cemetery. Art played a big part in the expansion of Edaville Railroad.

Art’s love for his family was matched by his dedication to serving others. Whether mentoring youth as a Cubmaster, coaching basketball and soccer, refereeing high school games, or welcoming children into his home as a foster parent, Art poured his heart into his community.

He was also a steadfast presence at the United Parish, faithfully serving the congregation in various capacities over the years. Art was the kind of person who made you feel welcome from the moment you met him. He knew everyone and everyone knew him. He was genuine, thoughtful and always willing to lend a hand or share a story. His quiet strength, sense of humor and unwavering integrity earned him the respect of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Arthur is survived by his wife Cynthia (Farrar) Borden, of Carver, MA; his sister, Susan (Susie) Borden of Bryantville, MA; his children Joshua Borden of Taunton, MA, Amy Hall of Eagleville, PA, Rebekah and her husband William Jentes Jr. of Eagleville, PA and their sons, Jayden and Daniel.

The service will be held at Shepherd Funeral Home in Kingston (216 Main St) on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Calling hours will take place from 10 AM to 12 Noon, followed by a Celebration of Life at noon.
