Dianne B.
Brosnan
d. Oct 9, 2026
Dianne B. (Butterfield, Higgins) Brosnan passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeremiah S. Brosnan and her son, Ernest (Sandy) Higgins.
Dianne - Mum - was born in Plymouth on October 11, 1931. She was the youngest of five children and the only girl. Her earliest education was in Plymouth at Mt. Pleasant school where she was taught by Mrs. Jeanette Holmes. It was in Mrs. Holmes’ classroom where she found her love of teaching. Mum went on to attend and graduate Lincoln School in Rhode Island and later Lesley College.
Mum taught in the Plymouth Public School system for more than twenty years. She was an active member of the First Parish church in Plymouth. After retiring from teaching, she volunteered for another twenty plus years at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital (Jordan). Throughout her busy life, Mum never met a stranger.
In 1972 Mum met and married the love of her life, Jerry. They enjoyed 17 short years together, traveling and raising her two boys. After retiring and Jerry’s passing, Mum poured her heart and soul into her family. Her sons and three grandsons and their families were a shining light in her life.
In her final years, Mum resided at Life Care Center of Plymouth on Obery Street. The residents, nurses, and staff became an extended family to her. We know that she loved them and we are so grateful for their care and support in Mum's final years.
Mum was the best wife, mother, mother-in-law, Nana and friend you could ever hope to have. These words cannot possibly convey the light that showed in her eyes when she saw you, or the warmth and strength of the hug that she gave when sending you on your way.
She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law Russell and Yvonne Higgins of Kingston. Her three grandsons and their families: Sean Higgins and Chrissy Supple of Plymouth, Graham and Lillie Higgins of Pembroke, Spencer Higgins and Brittany Miranda and Bailey and Madi of Plymouth.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you honor Mum’s memory by performing an unexpected act of kindness or simply taking a moment to make someone's day a little brighter.
Burial will be private
