Eugene M.
Orosz
May 3, 1942 — Jul 2026
Eugene (Gene) M. Orosz, age 84, of Duxbury, MA passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, at Newfield House, Plymouth MAfollowing a long illness.
Born in Queens, NY, Gene was the beloved son of Eugene and Elizabeth (Vitarius) Orosz. He grew up in Elmhurst, NY and graduated from Newtown High School and Stevens Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering. Throughout his life, he was known for his steadfast, loyal, honorable and generous character.
Gene worked for many years at IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY as an engineer and procurement specialist. After his time with IBM, career opportunities brought him to Lancaster, PA, Newtown, CT and finally Duxbury, MA. He was deeply committed to giving back to the community and served as a Selectman for the Town of LaGrange, NY, was a member of the Lion’s Club and volunteered as an associate member of the Duxbury Zoning Board of Appeals.
Above all, Gene cherished his family. He met his beloved wife, Toni (Browne) on a double date at Jones Beach and together they shared a beautiful life together for 62 years. He was a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Outside of work, Eugene enjoyed boating, tinkering with cars and taking vacations with his family. After retirement he went on to achieve his dream of earning his Captain’s License. Perhaps his proudest achievement, however, was his work as the Program Director for ACCESSAIL at the Duxbury Maritime School. At ACCESSSAIL he was able to combine his love for sailing with his passion for assisting others by giving community members with various disabilities the opportunity to enjoy sailing on Duxbury Bay.
Gene is survived by his wife Toni, his children, Christine McCarthy (Tom), Jeanna Lane (Patrick), James Orosz (Jill) and Stephen Orosz (Mary). He was also a proud grandfather to Abby, Kate, Julia, Sophia, Tessa, Max, Isabella and Lydia and great-grandfather to Hunter. He is also survived by his brother Robert Orosz (Nancy) and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, Kingston on Monday, July 13th from 4:00 to 7:00pm. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, July 14th at 10:00am at Holy Family Church in Duxbury. A burial service will directly follow at Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Duxbury Adaptive Sailing (formerly ACCESSSAIL) Program or Cranberry Hospice, if desired.
Gene's memory will live on through the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the lasting legacy he leaves with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
