Geraldine
Hanlon
August 11, 1931 – July 1, 2024
Geraldine Hanlon, of Duxbury, MA, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 11, 1931, in Brighton, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Corrigan) Fitzwilliam. Gerri was the younger sister to the deceased Pauline (Polly) Gallagher and the older sister to Edward J Fitzwilliam.
Gerri was the beloved wife of the late Edward E. Hanlon, with whom she shared a wonderful journey filled with love and companionship. Early in their marriage they raised their children in Hingham. As their children grew older they moved to Duxbury. Together, they raised six children, Edward E Hanlon III (Ceci), James Hanlon, John Hanlon, Joseph Hanlon (Laura), Michael Hanlon (Jennifer), and the late Mary Ross (Doug). Her legacy continues through her 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory and the lessons she imparted.
Gerri's ambition, positive outlook, creative decorative talent, and determination led her to start and operate several successful businesses. After raising her 6 children, at age 60, she bought a local gift shop in Hanover, The Assinippi Trading Company. She ran her store with enthusiasm, devotion, and humor until she was 78, at which time she decided it was time to retire and move on.
In Gerri's spare time she loved to go antiquing, spend time in her garden, cook, and was always with her family and friends. Gerri's remarkable life is a reminder of the power of love, hard work, and the enduring strength of family. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
In honor of Gerri's memory and legacy, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday July 12th from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, Kingston, MA followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury, MA.
