Gladys V.
Collins
May 10, 2026
Gladys V. (Tocko) Collins, 92 of Hanson, MA, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. Born on Christmas Eve 1933, to Joseph and Gladys Tocko of Randolph, she was a graduate of Stetson High School, class of 1951. Gladys was one of four children and she was always extremely close to her older sister Lorraine and her younger twin brothers, Allan and Paul, with whom she made lots of wonderful memories.
Gladys married her high school sweetheart, William Collins and together they had one son, William Jr., whom they called Bill. The couple settled in Brockton before moving the family to Halifax in the early 1960's, and Gladys remained living there until shortly after her husband's death when she moved to Hanson.
Gladys worked for a number of years as an assembly worker at Raytheon Corporation in Quincy. She then accepted a position as a customer service representative at Sigma Instruments of Braintree and remained there until her retirement several years later.
Gladys was a lifelong pet lover, an avid reader, and an aficionado of music. She also enjoyed dancing, especially with her husband William. In her younger days, Gladys enjoyed water skiing on Lake Monponsett along with her son, while William drove their boat. She also enjoyed winter sports such as snowmobiling with her brother Paul and his wife Barbara.
Family was always very important to Gladys, and she and her husband loved hosting holiday gatherings which were always filled with food, family, and fun. She was also known for making the "best" mud pie dessert. However her proudest achievement in life was her son Bill, and so it was no surprise that she passed away on Mother's Day with her son by her side.
Gladys is survived by her son William and his wife Nancy of Plymouth, her brother Paul Toczko and his wife Barbara of East Bridgewater, her sister-in-law Sue Toczko of Washington, NH, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her parents, her husband William, her sister Lorraine, and her brother Allan. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Allison Manning and her husband Kenny of Mebane, NC, Ashley Weider and her husband Matt of Ball Ground, GA, Amanda Zhang and her husband Adam of Shenzhen, China and Alexandra Oak and her husband Andrew of Mebane, NC.
Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation at Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, Kingston, MA on Friday, May 15th from 9:00 to 10:00am with a prayer service beginning at 10:00am.
Internment will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
