James Taylor Pye, a 65-year resident of Duxbury, local attorney, and Realtor, passed away on May 26. Jim was married for 46 years to Georgia Taft Pye and was the father of John Frederick Pye and his fiancé, Leslie Clague, and Marjorie Taft Hall and her husband, Thomas Jason Hall. He was the proud grandfather of Thomas James Hall and John Davis Hall.
Jim was born in Boston on August 24, 1947, the son of James Charles and Constance Sanderson Pye. Jim leaves his sister, Patience Pye Skarsgard of Albuquerque, NM, and his brother, Jonathan Houghton Pye, of Lee Summit, MO, as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special network of friends he considered family. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Pye Vickery.
Jim cherished his local roots. He was a member of the Duxbury High School Class of 1965 and participated in many town activities and committees, coached youth teams, and was a long-time member of Pilgrim Church and the Duxbury Yacht Club. He greatly enjoyed being part of the Shellfish Advisory Committee and participating in its work to bring oyster farming to Duxbury.
He was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a degree in economics, and received his Juris Doctor degree from the Marshall Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Jim received a Master's of Law in Taxation from Boston University. He practiced law in Duxbury for 43 years, concentrating in estate planning and real estate law.
Jim proudly served as an officer in the U.S. Army, with specialized training in intelligence. He worked on the Williamson Study at Fort Stewart, GA, a research effort that contributed to the development of the all-volunteer Army.
A celebration of his life will be held at Pilgrim Church, 404 Washington Street, Duxbury , at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 9. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pye Family Scholarship, in care of The Trustees of Partridge Academy, P.O. Box 2552, Duxbury, MA 02331.
