Janet M.
Peterson
d. Jul 21, 2018
Janet M. Peterson, 80
Retired Elementary Teacher; former Stoughton and Chatham resident
Rochester
Janet M. Peterson (Chambers) died peacefully July 21, 2018 at home from Pancreatic Cancer.
Born in Brockton, MA, she graduated Brockton High School in 1956 and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Bridgewater State College. She then taught at the West and Gibbons Schools in Stoughton for over 30 years. Educating was an intrinsic part of her character. Upon her retirement in 1999, after guiding hundreds of students through elementary school, she and her husband Charlie became full time residents of Chatham. For several years, she worked for the Chatham Chamber of Commerce, and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with visitors from around the Globe. Becoming a Grandmother presented her with a new student and a new role in which she shared everything from her love of mystery novels and knitting, to her love of interior design and classic films. In 2011, she moved to Rochester to be nearer her family. Janet enjoyed watching her granddaughter dance and perform, and was in the audience whenever she was able.
She is predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Charlie. Janet leaves behind her son Jeff, his wife Meredith, and her beloved granddaughter, Sydney, of Carver. She also leaves behind her brother Ron, and his wife Esta and their sons, Scott and Matt, of Florida.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
