John, who was known as Jack to his family and friends, was born on October 20, 1933 in Barrington, R.I., and later moved to Warren, R.I. while still in grade school. He was the son of Eleanor (Baxter) Bryden and Albert Bryden. He was the youngest of 10 children and a communicant of the Methodist church in Warren, R.I., from early childhood.
He was a graduate of Warren High School class of 1951, where he played football and baseball. After returning from Korea, he made his home in Warren, marrying Patricia on July 2, 1955. He returned to his previous job at Blount Seafood, where his strong work ethic and honesty impressed company leadership, including Blount's Chairman of the Board, Fred Richardson, who later offered him the opportunity to become the General Manager of Edaville Railroad in South Carver, also owned by Blount and Richardson. Jack accepted the position and remained there for over 30 years. Jack was not only the manager, but also a friend to many of the staff who worked for him at Edaville. Many of the younger employees often returned, stating how much Jack meant to them and credited Jack with setting them on the right path to become responsible adults with a good work ethic.
In the mid 1970s, he moved with his family from R.I. to South Carver, Mass., to be closer to his work. After retiring in 1992,his greatest joy was spending time with his family, caring for and watching over his cherished grandchildren. Always ready with a helping hand and a quick laugh, he was much loved by all of them. He will be forever missed by family and friends.
