Obituary

John F. Tura, 100, of Kingston, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026.

John is preceded in death by his beloved son John (Jack) Tura and a brother James and sister Augusta (Gussie)

He leaves behind his wife, Dolores of 72 years, his children Michael Tura of Plympton, Patti Smart and her husband Steven of Plymouth, Daniel Tura of Plympton, Granddaughter Shayla Smart of Middleboro and the joy of his life great grandson Barrett Payson of Middleboro. He also leaves behind his brother Richard Tura and sister-in-law Mary of Kingston, sister-in-law Linda Tura of Huntington, CT and several nieces and nephews.

John loved sports and he began and taught Kingston farm league baseball. He was a coach for Hill Top basketball and also coached little league. John served on the 4-H Town Committee and taught 4-H classes. He was also a St. Joseph communicant and taught CCD classes at St. Joseph’s Parish in Kingston. John loved children, especially his great grandson Barrett, who lit up his world. John also proudly served his country in the US Navy, serving in both WWII and the Korean War. During his time in the Navy he was aboard the USS Greyhound. In 2025 John was named “Citizen of the year” and served as Grand Marshall in the Plymouth Thanksgiving Day Parade. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.

Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, Kingston on Sunday, July 12th from 2:00 to 6:00pm. A funeral mass will be held Monday, July 13th at St. Joseph’s Parish in Kingston at 10:00am. Interment will directly follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Plymouth.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s name at Wounded Warriors, St. Joseph's Church and New England Village Recreation Fund.
