Obituary

Karen L. White, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away on October 23, 2026, in Buzzards Bay, MA, at 85 years of age.

Karen was the daughter of the late Lawson and Edith (Covert) Billings; loving wife of the late William “Lanny” White”; beloved mother of Jeffrey W. White and his wife Lisa of E. Wareham, MA, and Gregory S. White of Plympton; and cherished grandmother of Bryan White, Christopher White (and daughter-in-law, Jessica Svendsen-White), and Daniel White. She is also survived by her brother, David Billings of Kingston, MA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Audrey (Billings) Tower; and her brother, Lawson “Buddy” Billings.

Karen was born in Plympton, MA, on September 4, 1941. She grew up in Plympton where she resided most of her life. Karen graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School in June, 1959, and attended the Brockton Hospital Nursing School, graduating in September, 1962. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science at Bridgewater State College in May, 1997. Karen was a dedicated and devoted nurse who worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Middleboro, MA, for twenty-five years. She finished her nursing career at the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, MA.

Karen married William L. White (“Lanny”) in December, 1962, at the Plympton Congregational Church where they remained active members throughout their years of raising a family in Plympton. A devoted family woman, Karen loved her family members and friends beyond measure. Any and all moments shared with family and friends, for special occasions or “just because”, became cherished memories for Karen. She shared a very close bond with her grandsons, attending countless sporting games and activities throughout their young lives. That bond continued into their adult lives as she watched them grow into young men who returned that love and support to her, their treasured grandmother.

Karen always had a soft spot for animals of all kinds, from cows and chickens in her childhood, to family pets through the years. If there was a dog, a cat, or a bird in the house, you would most likely find them perched directly on Karen’s lap or shoulder.

Karen lived her life with love, kindness, and compassion for others. A memorial service to celebrate Karen’s life will be held at the First Congregational Church, 254 Main St., Plympton on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at 10:15 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karen’s honor and memory to Tide’s Hospice of Plymouth
