On September 14, 2026 we had to say goodbye to Kimberly Jane “Gillen” Holmes our incredibly strong warrior after an intense and courageous battle with cancer. Kim left this world on her own terms, not on cancers terms. Kim was THE most loving, devoted wife, mother, friend, sister, and companion who cared so very deeply for her family and friends. She was an immensely proud wife and mother.

A devoted hairstylist for many years, Kim worked alongside her mother until her mother’s passing. She was known for always telling it like it is (even when it was not what you wanted to hear) and for the love, loyalty and friendship she showed to all the people in her life. Kim was ecstatic about fulfilling her dream of returning to Monponsett Lake, where she grew up, and remained there until her untimely passing. She cherished the “Lake Life” . The lake days, daily sunsets, impromptu family/friend get togethers “just because”, Fourth of July celebrations, and the large family holiday gatherings spent with those closest to her.

Before this her life was rooted in Carver where she raised her children and her precious dogs Milo and Watson, even though she never intended to be a dog mom she took this role very seriously, loved every minute of it, and it suited her very well. Kim also cherished her many lifelong relationships with friends made in Carver.

Kim was born in Weymouth on July 6,1971 and raised in Halifax Massachusetts with her seven older siblings. Kim graduated from Silver Lake high School in 1989 with some of her closest friends both from childhood and school that have always been with her and were with her until the very end. Family meant everything to Kim. After their mother passed away in 2003, she took over as the Matriarch of the family, and she always made sure everyone was together. Along with her family there was nothing more important than all the time spent with friends who were treated and loved as family.

Kims family would like to give special thanks to her care teams from Dana Farber and South Shore hospital for all of the amazing care she received and connections made along her journey both medically and personally.

Kim is survived by her loving husband of 30 years Mark Holmes of Halifax, her daughters, Payton Holmes of Westborough, and Emerson Iannone and her husband, Zachery Iannone, of West Warwick, Rhode Island; and her mother-in-law, Eileen Holmes of Pembroke. She is also survived by her siblings: Brian Gillen and his wife, Joyce, of Carver; Kathy Kidd and her husband, Billy of Plymouth; Maureen Webber of Carver, ; Diane McLevedge of Weymouth; John Gillen and his wife, Wendy, of Halifax; and Gary Gillen and his wife, Kimberly, of East Bridgewater. Kim also leaves her brothers-in-law Steven and Kevin Holmes as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

Kimberly was predeceased by her parents, Patricia and Hugh Gillen; her brother, Steven Gillen; her brothers-in-law, Duane McLevedge and Gordon Webber; her father-in-law, Melvin Holmes; and her cousin, Gregory Doody.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, September 21st from 3-7:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (Rt. 106) Kingston. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church, Kingston. Graveside services will follow at Central cemetery in Halifax.
