Lawrence
Cunningham
d. Oct 13, 2026
September 13, 1952 — October 13th, 2026
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Lawrence (Larry) Cunningham, our father, grandfather, friend, and best all around car guy, who passed away on October 13, 2026 at the age of 74.
Born in Boston and raised in Hyde Park, Larry was the youngest son of the late Robert and Margaret Cunningham. He is survived by his loving children - Sean (Katrina) of Plymouth, Andrew (Kate) of Melrose, and Lea (Aaron) of Rochester, New Hampshire, and his six adoring grandchildren Teresa, Claire, Avila, Stella, Samuel, and Annabelle. He also leaves behind his beloved sister Virginia, devoted brothers Joseph and Robert, along with so many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends he adored.
Larry built his career in the automotive industry, and his life’s work was defined by his ability to forge lifelong relationships with colleagues and customers, many of whom became friends. He was an advisor and partner to his customers and believed fiercely in doing the right thing. He loved sports and was there, in seat, to witness both the heartbreaks and the triumphs of the Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins. On a local level, Larry coached and was President of Kingston Little League and Hilltop basketball. A fitness devotee, he completed the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, and began each day either walking his dog Shrek, practicing yoga, or swimming laps in his beloved Kingsbury Club pool.
In his final days, Larry was surrounded by loved ones sharing well-worn jokes, fond memories and gratitude for a life well lived. His family extends heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Dana-Farber Cancer Center, Beth Israel Deaconess, and Bay Path Rehabilitation in Duxbury.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made directly to Dana-Farber, or to either a Pan-Mass Challenge rider or Boston Marathon runner raising funds for cancer research. As a lifelong athlete, Larry thought there would be no better way to honor his memory than supporting a cause close to his heart.
A wake will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home in Kingston, MA on Thursday October 22 from 3pm until 7pm. A funeral service at 10am Friday, October 23, at Holy Family Church in Duxbury.
