Obituary

Lucy Lynn (Hetman) Harriman of Carver, died peacefully while surrounded by her family on June 5, 2023 at BID Hospital in Plymouth after long courageous battle with cancer over the last 16 months. Lucy was born in Jersey City, NJ on July 29, 1951. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, John R. and Anne M. (Gildea) Hetman, and her brother John. She is survived by her husband of 35 years Bill, her daughter Renee Coombs and her husband Joseph of Midlothian, VA, her son Gregg Shepherd and his wife Caitlin of Norwell, her daughter Natasha Brown and her husband Steven of Rockland, her 5 grandchildren Taylor Obando and her husband Antonio, Jada Coombs and her fiancé Alex Hilton, Jared Coombs and his wife Alisha, Morgana Brown, and Nahla Monaco, and great-granddaughters Adeline Obando and Myra Coombs. Also survived by her sister Nancy Hetman-LaVigne, her shopping & traveling companion and her husband Joseph of Carver, and several siblings

Lucy spent her early years in Pembroke, attending Pembroke public schools and graduating from Silver Lake Regional High School, and later studied journalism at Boston University. She worked many years for the Brockton Enterprise and the Quincy Patriot Ledger newspapers as a local news correspondent. She retired from the Ledger.

She loved her family more than anything, and derived great delight in hosting family gatherings during holidays.

In retirement she found her true passion, gardening. She was a certified Master Gardener and spent 10 years working for Crystal Lake Greenhouses in Carver until her death. She loved the process of seeing a tiny seed or bulb reach the beauty of maturity knowing that she had a small part in it's growth.

Her preference was to not have a wake or funeral, preferring that people remember her in their own way, her beautiful smile, her caring attitude, and her helpful nature to those in need and to her plants. Burial will be private. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Center, 275 Sandwich Street, Plymouth, MA 02360 or to Carver Emergency Medical Services, 110 Main Street, Carver, MA 02330.
