Obituary

Margaret "Peg/Peggy" (Murray) Ranahan, 89 years young, of Pembroke, passed at home after a brief illness, surrounded by her family, friends and cherished dog, “Scarlet".

Predeceased by her loving husband James "Dan" Ranahan, brother Edward Murray, sons-in-law, Zane Crosby, David Marino, David Rossi and Jeff Saunders, grandson Anthony Marino and recently, daughter, Lorraine Ranahan. Survived by nine of her 10 children, Laura Crosby (Kingston), Mary Willis (David) (Tampa Bay, FL), Daniel (Gail) (Hingham), Karen Saunders (Scituate), Elaine Rossi (partner Larry) (Kingston), Joyce Schorle (John) (Marshfield), William (partner Jen) (Pembroke), Nancy Baragwanath (partner Paul) (Pembroke) and Patrick (Colleen) (Plymouth); her grandchildren, Jodi Susi, Daniel Marino, Sean Ranahan, Lindsay Igo, Jeffrey Saunders, Katie Doyle, Victoria Rossi, Emily Ashe, Annabelle Smith, Olivia Rossi, John Schorle, Alexandra Quirk, William Schorle, Daniel Ranahan, Sarah Kate Ranahan, Abigail Baragwanath, Molly Baragwanath and Charlie Baragwanath, Jr., niece Holly Hughes, nephews Darrell Murray and Eric Murray and her beautiful, loving great-granchildren and cherished friends.

Peggy was born in Somerville, MA to William and Mary Murray, and sadly, lost her mother at the young age of 9; she and her younger brother, Ed, were raised by their father, Bill, and grandmother, Kitty Curran. She attended parochial schools and graduated from MRM High School. She met Dan Ranahan at age 11 and knew they were meant to be; they married after his service in the Navy on February 11, 1956. They were married for nearly 40 years when he passed suddenly on Feb. 5, 1996.

Peg & Dan spent many happy years together raising their large family, building their dream home, enjoying the weddings, holiday celebrations and their treasured travel time, especially to their beloved Bermuda cottage every year. Some treasured memories include seeing them dance spontaneously to one of their favorite songs; they had a special love that never died. They also shared a deep religious faith and had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Some of Peg's greatest joys was welcoming all the new babies into the family - she had that "magic mother touch". She sang to them, rocked them, hugged them and dispensed as much love as any grandmother could. Prior to retiring, she was a nanny to some very lucky families. Some of her hobbies included bowling, tennis, reading, travel and more recently, Scrabble and card games. Peg had and endless amount of patience, amazing resilience and an endless supply of devotion to her children, grandchildren and all the special pets that were part of the "Ranahan clan". She will be forever missed, never forgotten and always loved. 143 from all of us to our Mom and Nana.
