Mary C Johnson, age 78, of Braintree, MA passed away in her residence on July 25th, 2024. Mary was born to Francis and Paula Johnson and spent her childhood in Braintree, MA. She was the oldest child of Frank and Paula's five children. Mary graduated from Archbishop Williams Highschool in Braintree and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from UMass Amherst.
Mary worked in the English department for Harvard University for twenty years, meeting many famous poets and authors during her time. She would later move on to work as a freelance editor and graphic designer for publications local to the South Shore of Massachusetts.
Mary was an equestrian and animal lover. When able, she spent the majority of her time caring for and riding horses with family and friends. She was a proud and doting owner of numerous incredibly lucky animals, with a special place in her heart for West Highland Terriers. She was a talented artist who created numerous watercolor paintings which she frequently gifted to loved ones.
Mary Johnson is survived by her sister Beth Harvey of Plympton, her many nieces and nephews and her West Highland Terrier, Kuu. She was preceded in death by her three brothers Peter, Paul and Gregory Johnson along with her parents Francis and Paula. She will join her parents at a burial site in Jamaica Plain.
Visiting hours followed by a short funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 1st from 4pm-7pm at Shepherd Funeral Home in Kingston Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Animal Rescue League of Boston or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Mary will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
