Obituary

Nathalie Florence (Compton) Logan of Duxbury, MA, and formerly of Madison and New Canaan, CT, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, surrounded by loved ones, one day before her 84th birthday.

Nathalie was born on June 26, 1942, in New London, CT, to Marie Eugenie Compton and Douglass Mabee Compton. The second of three children, she spent her childhood in New London and Madison. Nathalie attended Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, CT, graduating in 1960. She went on to receive an Associate of Applied Science degree from Briarcliff College in Westchester County, NY.

After Briarcliff, Nathalie spent a season working and skiing at Sugarbush Mountain in Vermont, where she met her first husband, John Paul “Jack” Saxenmeyer of New Jersey. Nathalie and Jack were married at the Madison Beach Club in 1965 and lived in Philadelphia, PA, for a brief time before settling in Madison. They had a son, Derek, who passed away in infancy, and a daughter, Gretchen. Nathalie was widowed in 1970.

In November 1971, Nathalie married Kevin Michael Logan of New Haven, CT. They made their home in New Canaan, CT, and had a son, Bill, and a daughter, Cinnie. Nathalie was active in her community as a member of the Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk and as a Girl Scout volunteer. She worked for a decade as the registrar at New Canaan High School, where she helped high school seniors navigate the college application process. She also generously gave her time to help families apply for college financial aid.

In 1993, Nathalie and Kevin moved to Madison, CT. There, Nathalie volunteered with Friends of Hammonassett, helping preserve the natural resources of Hammonassett Beach State Park. A longtime member of the Madison Beach Club, she served on many committees over the years and as a governor. She was also a member of the Garden Club of Madison. Kevin passed away in 2002 following a battle with cancer, and Nathalie eventually moved to Massachusetts to be closer to family.

Nathalie adored Boston Terriers and raised five during her lifetime. She loved art and music and enjoyed reading, playing bridge, gardening, and doing puzzles. She loved the water and was happiest living near the coast. Although she did not particularly enjoy cooking, she was known for her famous pumpkin chiffon pie, which she made every Thanksgiving.

A natural caretaker, Nathalie loved helping others and would do anything for her friends and family. She had a warm, outgoing personality and made friends easily throughout her life. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready for an excursion or adventure.

Nathalie loved to travel and was a frequent visitor to Colorado, where she enjoyed many hikes and especially loved the aspen trees. Her travels also took her to Alaska, Arizona, Maine, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, Washington, England, France, Italy, Greece, and the Galapagos Islands, a destination that had long been on her bucket list.

Nathalie was truly the matriarch of her family. She was a loving and devoted mother who cherished her role as a grandmother. Known as “Nat Nat” to her grandsons, she was very close to all three boys and loved spending time with them. She cheered them on from the sidelines at soccer games, enjoyed their musical performances, spoiled them whenever possible, and attended all three of their high school graduations, including one in Colorado. Nathalie was also a loving and supportive mother-in-law, fondly called “Nat Mom” by her two sons-in-law.

Nathalie is survived by her son, William “Bill” Logan of Seattle, WA; her daughters, Gretchen Hernandez (husband Carlos) of Lafayette, CO, and Cynthia “Cinnie” O’Brien (husband Steve) of Duxbury, MA; and her grandsons, Henry and Brooks O’Brien and Logan Hernandez. She is also survived by her brother, Doug Compton (wife Kathy) of West Hartford, CT, and their children, Katie and Doug; her niece, Liza, of San Diego; and many dear friends.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
