Richard (“Ricky”) T. Zona, age 62, of Pembroke, Massachusetts passed away on September 6, 2026 in Pembroke.

Born on March 1, 1964 in Quincy, Ricky was the beloved son of Joseph Zona, Jr. and Shirley (Sargent) Zona. He spent his entire life in the South Shore, where he maintained lasting connections and became a familiar and loved part of the community. He was known for his warmth, humor, generosity and the joy he brought to the people around him. He had a remarkable love for chocolate cake and all things sweet - especially in his tea, which he enjoyed with extra, extra sugar. He also loved to bake and cook, sharing his creations and talent with family and friends. His legendary breakfasts, cheesecake and doughboys became cherished family favorites and a memorable part of the joy he brought to those around him.

Throughout his life, Ricky was dedicated to his family and took great pride in his work and construction. He was self-employed and became involved in the family business, helping to carry on and grow the work over the years. Through the business, he built lasting relationships and maintained strong connections throughout the community. He was known for his ability to work with his hands and his incredible talent for making almost anything work, earning a reputation as the family’s own MacGyver. From the time his siblings were children, he could almost always be found working on a machine, fixing something, or figuring out how to bring something back to life. If Nemo’s motto was “Just keep swimming,” Ricky’s was “Just keep digging” - there was always another project, repair or machine waiting for him.

Above all, Ricky was devoted to his family. He shared a special bond with each of his children, who were a constant source of love, support and pride throughout his life. Ricky cherished the time he shared with each of his children and was immensely proud of the people they had become.

Ricky was preceded in death by his brother Joseph, III; his wife, Maryanne Zalis; and his parents, Joseph and Shirley.

He is survived by his sons, Kyle and Dylan; his stepchildren Nick, Meghan and Mark; his siblings, Raymond, Debbie, Ginger and Kim; several nieces and nephews, and extended family members.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026 from 5:00-9:00 PM at Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St., Kingston, MA.
